Reggae pioneer Jimmy Cliff breathes his last at 81

Legendary Jamaican singer Jimmy Cliff has passed away at the age of 81.

On Monday, Jimmy’s wife, Latifa Chambers, announced the death of the musician on social media.

Disclosing the iconic reggae star’s cause of death, Latifa revealed that Jimmy died after suffering a seizure, followed by pneumonia.

“It’s with profound sadness that I share that my husband, Jimmy Cliff, has crossed over due to a seizure followed by pneumonia,” she wrote on Instagram.

Latifa further penned, “I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and coworkers who have shared his journey with him,” the statement began.

“To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career … Jimmy, my darling, may you rest in peace. I will follow your wishes,” Jimmy’s wife continued.

Concluding the statement, she added, “Jimmy, my darling, may you rest in peace. I will follow your wishes. I hope you all can respect our privacy during these hard times. Further information will be provided at a later date. See you and we see you Legend.”

Jimmy Cliff, whose real name is James Chambers, was born in Jamaica in 1944.

Throughout his decades-long career in the music industry, Jimmy released many songs, including Many Rivers to Cross, Reggae Night, Wild World, We All Are One, You Can Get It If You Really Want, and Rebel in Me.
