James McAvoy quietly expanded his family… four years ago!
The X-Men star secretly welcomed his first child with Lisa Liberati back in 2022, but they kept the news private until now. In a new interview with The Guardian published March 31, McAvoy, 46, opened up about becoming a new father again at age 42, meaning his new bundle of joy arrived in 2022.
It marks his second child as McAvoy is already dad to 15-year-old son Brendan, whom he shares with his ex-wife Anne-Marie Duff.
Opening up about fatherhood, McAvoy admitted to The Guardain that becoming a parent in his forties has brought a different perspective. “Having a kid at 42 is definitely easier in some ways I worry less,” he said, confirming that he became a father again in 2022.
“I’m a bit more philosophical. But it’s also harder, because you’re just older and tireder,” he added.
The Chronicles of Narnia actor noted that balancing work and parenting still comes with its challenges. “I’m getting all that first-timer stress in my 40s. When we were shooting the film, I’d wake up at 2.30am with the film buzzing in my head.”
He added that the early grind of building a career is often better suited to younger years. “That’s the time that you work your socks off, burn the midnight oil, run the extra mile – and usually when you’re doing that, you’re in your 20s.”
McAvoy and Liberati, who split their time between London and Philadelphia, first met on the set of Split. After years of keeping their relationship largely out of the spotlight, McAvoy confirmed they married in 2022.
