George Clooney says he’s stepping away from on-screen kisses after a conversation with his wife, Amal Clooney.
The 64-year-old actor made the admission in a recent Daily Mail interview, sharing that he’s following in the footsteps of Paul Newman by avoiding romantic scenes with female co-stars.
“I’ve been trying to go the route Paul Newman did. ‘Okay, well, I’m not kissing a girl anymore,'” George told the outlet.
He continued, “When I turned 60, I had a conversation with my wife. I said, ‘I can still play basketball with the boys. I play with 25-year-old guys. I can still hang, I’m in shape. But in 25 years, I’m 85 years old… that’s a real number,'” he began.
He also recounted past filming challenges, particularly his on-screen kiss with Julia Roberts in Ticket to Paradise (2022), about which he joked it took “80 takes.” However, he elaborated that 79 were spent laughing before the final shot.
Clooney has done several other romantic films, including Intolerable Cruelty (2003) with Catherine Zeta-Jones, and One Fine Day (1996) with Michelle Pfeiffer.
The Oscar winner also spoke about his marriage, saying compromise has kept it strong.
“We’ve never had a fight. Some of it is because I’m at this point in life where if she wants to paint the wall red, I don’t care,” he said in a CBS News interview.
George and Amal were introduced by a friend in July 2013, began dating, and became engaged in April 2014. They married in September 2014 and later welcomed 8-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella.
