After nearly two decades, Malcolm in the Middle is returning with Bryan Cranston in the lead. The majority of the original cast is on board except for one.
He is Erik Per Sullivan, who played the on-screen son of the Breaking Bad star in the sitcom.
Expressing disappointment on this, Bryan said on the Fly on the Wall podcast with Dana Carvey and David Spade. “I talked to Erik and I said, ‘Hey, we got the show! It’s going to come back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, that’s fantastic!’”
“And I go, ‘Yeah, so we’re looking forward to having you back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, no, no, I don’t want to do it. But it’s fantastic,’” he noted.
Bryan also weighed in on Erik’s decision to pursue a career in academics instead of acting. “He’s actually going to Harvard. He’s really, really smart, and he’s getting his master’s at Harvard right now.”
“Erik said, ‘Oh God, no, I haven’t acted since I was nine or something. So I’m not into it.’”
The 33-year-old has played Dewey, the youngest son of Hal (Bryan) in Malcolm in the Middle, which is returning to the screen after Disney+ green-lighted a four episodes special reunion.
