Tony Gilroy shares the cost of making ‘Andor’

Andor is one of the hit shows in the Star Wars universe. However, the cost of producing the series was, to say the least, massive.

During the ATX Television Festival, the showrunner Tony Gilroy said, “For 24 episodes, I never took a note. For Disney, this is $650 million.”

His comments reflect that the studio has supposedly given him an open hand in financing the show, which has led to the series being the most expensive in the Star Wars universe.

This is answered by the star himself, in an interview with Comic Book, saying, “I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made.’”

He continued, “We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.”

In the meantime, Star Wars: New Order Jedi will be out on December 17, 2027.
