Alex Cooper has weighed in on the steep learning curve of the media industry.

While appearing on Phoebe Gates and Sophia Kianni’s The Burnouts podcast, Cooper reflected on her past and said she made “mistakes in terms of trusting people” at the start of her career.

“I wish I would have put more things in writing so that I could back up what really happened,” she began.

Moving forward, Cooper also touched upon the difficulty of separating professional decisions from personal feelings, especially when building a brand from the ground up.

“It’s so crazy how much emotion can get tied into business. As much as everyone’s like, it’s business, it’s not personal — everyone takes it f****** personal, especially if it is your own company or your brand.”

She also admitted that she was left heartbroken when people judged her intentions and misrepresented conversations she had with them in good faith.

She explained, “Some of my missteps in business came when I was being honest with someone, who would then turn it around and say I had done something entirely different. And I’m like, ‘Wait, that never happened.'”

She concluded by saying, “I guess I technically should have put that in writing — so I think now I put everything in writing.”
