Emma Stone jumped to Austin Butler’s defense after his bee encounter went viral at Cannes.
The 36-year-old American actress and film producer showed up on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, June 26, and called to mind the viral moment that happened at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival last month where a bee flew into the faces of her, Butler, and Pedro Pascal while they were posing for pictures on the red carpet.
Diego Luna, who is performing hosting duties for a week, enquired if Butler, her Eddington costar, was responsible for the hilarious incident.
Stone defended him by saying, “He is a sweetheart and a half — there is no way he wanted that bee in my face.”
The Oscar-winning actress emphasized, “He was trying to blow it behind me!” but some people thought he blew it toward the Poor Things star.
Taking a playful jab at Butler, Luna quipped, “I think [Austin] brought the bee,” which prompted Stone to respond, “I almost guarantee you, if anyone brought the bee, it was Pedro. … He probably unleashed that bee.”
It is pertinent to mention that Pascal actually hit the bee while the Dune star tried to blow it away.
