The Game of Thrones universe is expanding once again, but this time onto the stage.

The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced that Game of Thrones: The Mad King will premiere on July 20, 2026, with performances running through September 5 at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

It chronicles the final years of King Aerys II Targaryen, the infamous “Mad King”, whose downfall sparked Robert’s Rebellion and set the stage for the events of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.
