Sabrina Carpenter receives backlash after Gigi Hadid encounter

Sabrina Carpenter sparked a mix of laughter and criticism after a playful interaction with Gigi Hadid at her latest Short n Sweet concert.

During the opening night of the second North American leg on Thursday, October 23, the 26-year-old Disney star-turned-pop sensation locked eyes with the supermodel for the Juno tradition.

At each stop of her tour, the Espresso hitmaker “arrests” someone from the audience before belting out her song Juno.

So, during the first show at Pittsburgh, One Direction famed singer Zayn Malik’s ex-girlfriend was the latest victim to be arrested for being a “gorgeous girl.”

Multiple fan-captured videos showed Hadidm clad in an animal-print tank top over a white tee and jeans, standing in the audience.

Her cheeky banter with Carpenter includes the singer teasing, “Wow, maybe we’re soulmates! Gigi, I’m getting so hot and flustered,” before twirling her pink handcuffs and declaring, “This one’s for Gigi, everybody!”

After the concert, Hadid joined in on the fun, reposting clips of the moment to her Instagram Stories with the caption, “Guilty as charged.”

While many fans cheered the playful exchange, others felt the routine was starting to lose its spark.

Some social media users questioned why celebrities often get chosen for the bit instead of regular concertgoers.

“This sounds stoopid but why do some guests stand in front of barricade? does sab have them as special guests or?” one X (formerly Twitter) user asked.

Another chimed in, saying, “I low-key wish more non-celebs or influencers got this during the shows.”

A third appeared to be sarcastic, writing, “can’t wait for the day she arrests a regular person,” echoing sentiments of few more users.

Gigi’s arrest comes after a slew of celebrity cameos in Carpenter’s shows, including Millie Bobby Brown, Emma Bunton, Marcello Hernández, Margaret Qualley, DJo and more.
