In the upcoming Superman, the Kryptonite superhero is not the only hero in the DC film. Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl is another one.
She is part of a group called Justice Gang, featuring Element Man Metamorpho, Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner Green Lantern. They are headed by a company Lord Tech, led by Maxwell Lord.
But what is surprising in The Last of Us’s actress view is the complex backstory of the DC character.
“Kendra is reincarnated, but she’s reincarnated from an alien,” she said on the DC Studios Showcase Official Podcast. “So she has all those memories. The story is actually really dark, it’s actually so ****** up that I wonder how they’re going to handle that when it comes to addressing that.”
It is unlikely the backstory of Kendra to be go through in Superman. But Isabela said, “She carries all of the memories and the traumas and the mistakes of her past lives in her body wherever she goes, so she has a little bit of a grumpy demeanor.”
However, the 23-year-old noted, “I love it. Honestly, it gives me so much backstory, and it’s super helpful.
“But then, also, with the James Gunn twist, you know, that self-awareness and the comedy of it all … It gives me [the] opportunity to sort of make light of my trauma,” she said.
In the meantime, Isabela’s Hawkgirl will appear in season two of Peacemaker.
