Dakota Johnson recently shared why she rejected the majority of the rom coms that were offered to her.

The Fifty Shades of Grey star recently sat down for a candid confessional  with Los Angeles Times for promoting her upcoming movie, Materialists, starring Pedro Pascal and Glen Powell.

During this chat, Dakota weighed in on why she was reluctant to accept any rom com offers until her latest project.

“They’re not good,” she revealed with a laugh adding, “Sorry.”

“I think a lot of what I read these days is void of soul and heart,” the 35-year-old actress went on to explain.

“I really love a rom-com if it feels like I can connect to the people in it. And I think I’ve found it hard to connect to the people in some of the ones that I’ve been offered,” Dakota further elaborated.

She even discussed that the plot of the movie Materialists felt different for her and so she accepted the role of Celine, a matchmaker.

Speaking of her character in the movie, she noted, “And Celine is all soul and heart.”

Dakota also revealed that “the complexities of all of the characters” was something which inspired her.

“The paradox. Everyone being confused about what the f**** they’re supposed to do with their hearts. And what’s the right move? I found that very honest and I found it just so relatable,” she concluded.
