’28 Years Later’ director set the record straight on Cillian Murphy’s casting

Danny Boyle, the director of 28 Years Later, seemingly came to fully learn the strong fanbase of Cillian Murphy when he cast doubt on his casting in the upcoming post-apocalyptic horror film.

Barely 24 hours later, he, in an interview with IGN, confirmed that the Peaky Blinder star would appear in the newly-announced trilogy — but not in the first installment.

“He is in the second one. I shouldn’t give away too much. I’ll get killed,” he said, referring to the sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

After a string of hit films, Cillian has become a powerhouse in Hollywood. For example, the director, in a separate interview, said, “All I can say is you have to wait for Cillian, but hopefully he will help us get the third film financed.”

To IGN, Danny further explained, “We haven’t got the money for the third one yet. It will depend how the first one does, I guess. But hopefully, if we do okay, they’ll give us the go-ahead for the money and for the third one. Everybody’s standing by for that, really. Including Cillian.”
